We only use top of the line parts for all of our custom components. For our custom electronic components, we etch our own custom PCBs, tin them, and coat them with a protective silicon coating to prevent corrosion and only use top components to populate them.  We even use gold plated connectors whenever available for all plugs and connections.  In most cases, we can design the PCB to fit in a particular spot in your case that's most convenient for you.
